The early days of Fall bring with them a twinge of longing, longing for that which is most dear to our hearts and souls. As we watch the trees yield their leaves; as we enjoy the activity of the squirrels as they hide food; as we wonder at the flight of the geese; we are filled with a sense that all is as it should be, that everyone and everything in nature is doing the work that must be done to prepare for the season of rest, winter.

Let us remember to give thanks for each moment of sunshine, for the colorful trees, for the scurrying animals, and for the inner call to slow down and savor, even if just for a moment the beauty and joy of life.

  1. Dr. Sheila O'Connell-Roussell says:

    Sr. Higgs,
This is a profoundly beautiful reflection on the season. I hope that these poetic thoughts will be included in the Gratitude Service to be celebrated on Tuesday October 26th @ 5:30 in the BP John Weigan hall chapel/ performance center.
