With all the changes occurring in our world today how appropriate we enter this time of preparing for the arrival and return of our Lord, Jesus Christ. As foretold in Isaiah 61:
“The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the afflicted, to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, release to the prisoners”
Christ comes bringing salvation and justice for all – especially the persecuted, especially the marginalized, especially the poor.
We have entered a season of great hope, light and promise. As Mary beheld her cousin Elizabeth, the two surprised, in awe, and Mary full of grace, Mary affirmed God’s promise to God’s people:
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness;
behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
His mercy is from age to age
to those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm,
dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.
He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones
but lifted up the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things;
the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped Israel his servant,
remembering his mercy,
according to his promise to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”
Let us get ready, let us make way. Let us care for one another (and our selves) with compassion and kindness, asking that our trust in that which is Good, Kind, Loving, Merciful, Just and greater than ourselves be grown, strengthened, and deepened in the face of fear, anger, hurt, and uncertainty.
Advent Blessings be with us all!
